Enjoying Life

When I was a small child, my daddy had a gold tooth in front. He had jokes all the time. When he would tell one of his jokes, before either my sister or I could react, he’d tilt his head back and start to laugh like Geoffrey Holder, the cola nut guy. He would tell us that this was his “Golden Laugh.” My sister and I wanted to have a golden laugh of our own.

One day he explained to us that we each had our own golden laugh. Daddy also shared the magic powers in each of our golden laughs. He told us that when things got so hard that we wanted to cry, take a moment, reach deep inside and let our golden laugh out. He guaranteed that we would feel better in doing so. Daddy was right.

Over the years I never forgot that my golden laugh was inside. There were plenty of times when I felt so bad, my golden laugh would not come out. It was so hard not being able to laugh during those times, especially knowing that God gifted me with a wonderful sense of humor, (though twisted at times.) But fear not my little chickadee’s, that time in my life is way over.

I tease my minister friends all the time because not only are they great ministers and healers, they are some of the funniest people alive. They keep me in stitches. Talk about laughter being the best medicine, well I’m so medicined up that I rarely feel bad. This is a really great thing for me because feeling bad does not fit my personality or consciousness for that matter. I’ll take a good laugh over most other things.

Laughing is one of the great enjoyments of my life. It doesn’t cost anything and those that make me laugh the most are those that are close to me and know me well. I mean I do see funny stuff and some comedians are good, but not as good as my friends. Friends that make me laugh, what a wonderful thing. Laughter, it’s how I enjoy life.
