Artist Statement

Primarily a painter and mixed media artist, my work is deeply informed by my philosophy and experiences as a Nigerian youth. I employ isolated figures and meticulously developed scenes to construct compelling narratives, often drawing the viewer’s attention to a central figure. Through the subject’s fixed gaze, I aim to create a moment of pause, fostering a connection between the viewer and the sitter.

Incorporating vibrant, playful hair colors, I allude to coming-of-age stories and transitional moments in life. These details serve as visual metaphors for growth, identity, and transformation.

As a highly skilled painter, I often depict individuals with whom I share a close personal connection with. In this way, my practice is akin to classical portrait painters, yet my approach is uniquely modern. I imbue my subjects with a sense of social agency and narrative depth, going beyond mere realism. Through subtle, introspective elements, I create works that resonate emotionally and conceptually, inviting viewers to engage on a deeper level.
