AGING with HEALTH AND GRACE

Longevity is its own blessed state:
I write notes to myself on bright sticky pads and post them on my refrigerator…because the fridge holds my juices, ice cream, and treats….
I weigh myself and take my blood pressure every morning….record it on a 5" X 7" note card on the bathroom mirror because my cardiac team needs to be assured my blood pressure and weight barely fluctuate. Weekly, a member of my cardiac team calls and listens while I read their information into their permanent record, ensuring this heart works for as long as it can.
I read EVERY DAY…the fast pace of new information coupled with lived experiences, politicization, and polarization…because I can’t rely on the government, politicians, or even friends not to constantly gaslight me… and because I’ve seen family and friends slowly fade to where their best memories are only associated with the past.
I utilize whatever services and perks through the Agency on Aging that are available… remembering all the taxes I paid while working and feeling entitled. So many of my family, friends, and colleagues paid into Social Security but did not live long enough to reap the benefits.
Ultimately, my goal is to live abundantly as a senior—enjoying the experience, coupled with wisdom. Not over-sharing or romanticizing “back in the day” experiences. Open to new challenges and new opportunities.
