As Chicago teens, we had a unique upbringing. Our formed social clubs held parties in hotels and event centers with young folks dresisng to the nines. There was always one brother who was always "clean," Tyrone Banks. He indicated that his sense of style came from his mother.

She said number, one: You pay for what you get. If you buy classic clothes they never go out of style. I have a Penteldon Mills plaid shirt from 1964 that I still get compliments on She believed in coordination not necessarily matching. She said that the first things a woman looks at in a man are his teeth, hands and shoes.

I try to remember that.

Tyrone was the originator of the "gang of four," that challenged Inland Steel Industries to initiate diversity and career advancement for minority workers.

He is now General Manager of the Jackson Park Golf Course, and as an avid golfer, has "played with the Obamas twice."
