During the Civil Rights movement, things began to pick up. I saw my first Black children's book in the early 1980s. I was enthralled! We are still starving. Which is why Afro Puff Girl was born.

Life is funny that way. Sometimes the very things we endured, survived, and overcame become our gifts. The things we thought might kill us become our strength, finally making the experiences fully come into focus as meaningful in our lives.
