My tongue is divine, weaving the substance of the universe into my experiences.

Each of us is master or mistress of the tongue, a magnificent tool for shaping that which is about us. We are often careless in its use and must then contend with the consequences of our mindlessness. When we wield our tongue in love, seeds of pleasantness sprout in our day-to-day experiences in expected and surprising ways. When we wield our tool with a mind to master or diminish others, we may experience a period of glory, but we quickly find our path has turned uphill and against the wind.

Do your words lift those around you? Or do you withhold healing, comforting, and encouraging words? How do your words come to the ears of their intended? Do they sting? Bite? Snap? Growl? Or are they sweet? Bright? Fanciful? Do your words inspire fear or hope?

Are you a surgeon who slings your instruments with no thought to the outcome? A bricklayer laying bricks by accident? A master of any art or trade knows how to use their tools and which tools to use for the desired effect.

And as we speak of effects, they do not exist independent of their causes. Cause and effect are, in fact, one…indivisible. So, equipped with a palette, toolbox, arsenal, and every tool or instrument in my imagination, I go about thoughtfully or thoughtlessly, for better or worse, constructing, painting, and deconstructing my moments, relationships, environment, and life, with my words.

My words do more than describe my reality. My words assemble and weave my interpretation of events and circumstances into a new reality reflecting the character of the thoughts behind my words.

Each of my thoughts represents a potential reality. It is my words, product of my divine tongue, that transform nothing at all into my experience.

God, grant me wisdom in the use of my divine tongue.
