Snap Into Your Power

Back in the 90’s Snap released a jam called ‘The Power.’  The hook was I’ve got the power. Later in the song, they would say, “It’s getting’, it’s getting’, it’s getting kinda hectic.”  Then the female lead would break out with “I‘ve got the power.”  This song would make a paraplegic jump out of their wheel chair and do the Running Man.  I’m as serious as a heart attack.  Okay, not everyone would agree on that.

Even though I was still living under my mother’s roof, when the song came out, I felt like I had the power to do anything.  When I heard the beat, I would bounce so hard from side to side. My knees would touch my chest.  My elbows would be high and moving with the rhythm.  I was so pumped!

I am currently “in the meantime”.  In other words its getting, it’s getting, it’s getting kinda of hectic.  I am sitting ‘patiently’ for a change to come.  It is at this time doubt creeps in and attempts to steals my joy; I feel powerless.  But thanks to the Almighty, even to this day, The Power still works for me. It reminds me that I have the power in my weakest hour; the power that lies within.  When I was younger, I never thought this song was spiritual.  Before, it was just a jam that got you crunk.  Now, I see it is as an affirmation that calls forth the power within me.

The beat gives me energy to move whatever it is that has me weak, busted, and disgusted out the way.  Maybe this song doesn’t do it for you, but there is always something that empowers you. There is something that reminds you that you have the power.  There is power in all things. Even when you can’t feel it, it is still there. You have to want to see it and call it forth. It’s within your DNA and breath.

In recalling the tales of the ancient Goddess of Lunar, Oshun, Oya, Hathor, and Gran Ibo, I am reminded how they tapped into their power.  It inspires me to tap into mine.  I am young Goddess LaQuanda from the land of Selma, Alabama.  I am a warrior and the keeper of Love.  I have the power to create. I cast out self-hatred and self-love prevails.  I reign with greatness.  I spread peace and joy throughout the lands and across bodies of water.  I help restore balance to earth.  I remind my people we are strong and mighty. We are free.

I am young Goddess LaQuanda from the land of Selma, Alabama.  The ancestors speak through me providing wisdom and understanding.  I birth gods and goddesses that continue the legacy.  I reconstruct DNA for greater purposes with the power of my tongue. I attract the richness of the universe.   I honor the earth.  She is my home on this physical plane.

My super powers lie along my spine. They are the seven Chakras.  A shield of protection surrounds me.  No one but my creator can break it.  I use my emotions to decode the mystics of the earth.  When angered, I am an F5 tornado.  I see through my third eye. What I cannot do there is a higher power that empowers me.  Who am I? I am young Goddess LaQuanda and I am powerful.  So are you.
