Look at those faces! Eleven years ago, we generated these spirits; some are still with us. They shared what they did best on the pages of Garden Spices (GS) - perspective, with integrity, wit, humor, artistry, and most of all, love. Thank you for being a vital part of our history
As we celebrate this anniversary and reflect on our history, Garden Spices feels the absence of two voices who once graced our pages and our lives: Core Contributors Susan Peters and Aria Lott. Though they are no longer with us, their voices still echo through the pages of this magazine.
Susan Peters

Susan was part of the backbone of Garden Spices. She brought in so many talented contributors—how could she not? She was a dynamic, multifaceted author, community organizer, and activist. She was also my collaborator and sister-friend.
There was never an issue of GS without poignant—and sometimes hard-hitting—words from Susan. The Chicago community still feels the sting of her absence. She is a vital part of our history, and here at Garden Spices, we celebrate her life and legacy with love.
When the Vessel is Empty, by Susan Peters
Aria Lott

I once told Aria that she could be a vessel of light for readers who are challenged by epilepsy. She began writing for Garden Spices, and she opened the door to understanding the process of epilepsy. While navigating pain, she enabled us to affirm the joy and blessings of her giving and living.
Aria had a beautiful voice that blessed her family and friends. She was my niece, by love. I was a witness to her singing, which carried us beyond this realm. And though she is there, she remains here—in our hearts and on these pages.

I cannot express enough gratitude for the privilege of publishing this magazine. I felt compelled to pay tribute to the pioneers who started this journey with Camp Goldston, LLC, and Garden Spices Magazine. However, I continue to applaud every person, past and present, who graced our pages, and I invite you to become a member of our family.
The theme of our next issue is "Humor." Sometimes, humor is the only thing that sustains us, especially during these tumultuous times.
What makes you laugh? Let's hear it. Our deadline is August 20 for a September 4th publishing date. Mail submissions to: campgoldston@gmail.com.
